Church Services help
Parishioners who regularly attend Mass at St Peter’s are encouraged to join one or more of the teams who help to prepare and conduct the liturgy
Altar server
At St Peter’s this role is usually undertaken by children and youth. Parents should speak to one of the priests about arrangements for training.
Bidding prayer composer
A small team take turns to draft each Sunday’s bidding prayers, intended to reflect some of the current concerns of the congregation. After the Creed, the congregation is led in these prayers by one of the readers. If you would like to join this team, please contact the parish secretary.
Sacristy helper, flower arranger
Please contact Anne Donaldson, via the presbytery or one of the Welcome Ministers.
Choir member or instrumentalist
Please see the link below to Central Choir page.
Communion minister
Communion Ministers help in giving the sacrament to the congregation during Mass. They may also take the sacrament to parishioners unable to attend Mass, housebound or in hospital or care home. For safeguarding the potentially vulnerable people they visit, Communion Ministers need to be checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Training for Communion Ministers is offered regularly by the diocese and supplemented by the parish. Please speak to the parish secretary if you would like to be a Communion Minister.
Reader
If you would like to be a regular reader at Mass, please contact the Reader Coordinator, Anne Donaldson, via the presbytery or one of the Welcome Ministers. You may find it helpful to read our practical advice for Sunday Mass readers. Anne arranges assessment and training for readers when needed, and organises the readers’ rota.
Welcome minister
At Sunday Masses, the welcome ministers greet those arriving at the church, make sure they have all they need to participate, and help to maintain safety and good order for the congregation during the service. They are identified by blue sashes. Please speak to a Sunday Mass Warden (wearing a blue sash with embroidered edging), if you are interested in this ministry.
Offertory collector
Please speak to a Sunday Mass Warden (wearing a blue sash with embroidered edging), if you are interested in this ministry.
If you are interested in undertaking any of these roles for a while, please complete and return a household details form (see Downloads or the leaflet stand in the church foyer).
